Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Do you take beginners?

Yes! We love teaching beginners. Do NOT be nervous about coming to your first class, everyone is friendly and welcoming.

What should I bring to my first class?

Once you've decided to take a Jiu-Jitsu class, it's important to make sure you're properly outfitted. The right clothes help keep you and others safe. Rash guards (upper body) and spats (lower body) are generally worn under a gi to avoid burns and rashes. They also help you keep your body hair and sweat off the mat and your grappling partners. Get a gi with a belt (white, if you're just starting out) to make it easier to practice without worrying about your clothes getting in the way. Mouth guards and headgear or ear protection can provide additional protection against accidental injury. Don't wear glasses or jewelry, and make sure everything you're wearing to class is clean when you arrive. If you have long hair, consider styling it in a ponytail, braid, or bun to keep it out of the way.

Do you take visitors?

Yes, we love to have students visit from other schools. We do not charge a mat fee for visiting students.

Do you have a shower?

Yes, we provide a shower for our students.

Can I try a class before I sign up?

Yes, we offer a trial week for free.

Do you have any special rules?

No, we do not have any special rules. Any GI color is okay and we do not have a strict traditional environment.

What’s up with the Chapel thing? Is this a religious school?

No - the building did used to be a church, and we are a few blocks from the Mormon Temple, but this is just a play on words and a nod to our location. With that said you may run into a few people who practice Jiu-Jitsu somewhat religiously!
